Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
